The 25 minute timer is the foundation of the Pomodoro Technique — the most widely studied time-management method for sustained focus. One 25-minute session of undivided concentration, followed by a 5-minute break, is called one Pomodoro. For the full auto-cycling experience, use Polytimer's built-in Pomodoro tab.
Enable Repeat to automatically restart the countdown — perfect for interval training or back-to-back sessions. Enable End Time to see the exact clock time your timer will finish.
Francesco Cirillo developed the Pomodoro Technique in the late 1980s, choosing 25 minutes because it is long enough for meaningful progress but short enough to maintain full concentration. The kitchen timer he used happened to be tomato-shaped (pomodoro in Italian).
Use the Pomodoro tab if you want automatic Focus → Short Break → Long Break cycling. Use the Countdown tab if you only need a single 25-minute timer — click the 25m preset and press play.
The Pomodoro Technique recommends stopping at 25 minutes even when in flow — the break is part of what makes the method effective long-term. That said, Polytimer lets you adjust the focus duration in the Pomodoro settings to 30, 50, or any custom length.
